Mickelson passes Woods as highest-earning pro golfer

By one estimate, Tiger Woods is no longer the highest-earning pro golfer. That title, for now, belongs to Phil Mickelson.

Mickelson raked in more money in 2014 than Woods, according to a new list published by Forbes. It's the first time Woods hasn't been the best paid player in golf in his pro career. However, the margin was pretty slim -- at least when talking eight-figure sums. Mickelson earned an estimated $50.8 million to Woods' $50.6 million.

The difference seems is about a fourth-place finish in a normal PGA Tour event. Though both players each had an awful 2014 by their standards, Mickelson did earn $2.2 million more than Woods in on-course earnings.

While all of us would gladly take almost $51 million per year -- hell, in a lifetime -- both players' earnings pale in comparison to the estimated $300 million Floyd Mayweather Jr. made.
